Collaboration to promote medicinal herb research and development

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Li Dak Sum Yip Yio Chin R & D Centre for Chinese Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Institute for Control of Chinese Traditional Medicine and Ethnic Medicine, National Institutes for Food and Drug Control, China was signed on 17 March 2017 in Beijing. The Institute for Control of Chinese Traditional Medicine and Ethnic Medicine is a division of National Institutes for Food and Drug Control (NIFDC). The Institute is the highest authority in China to oversee the registration and examination of traditional Chinese medicine and ethnic medicine in China. In order to improve the quality control of traditional Chinese medicine and ethnic medicine, the Institute endeavors in the research on the standardization of traditional Chinese medicine and ethnic medicine as well as the development of new validated methods for testing and examination. During the seminar, Professor Pang-Chui Shaw, Director of our Center presented a talk on ‘Molecular authentication of Chinese Medicinal material and products’. The MoU was signed for the exchange of scholars and researchers, joint academic and training activities, validation of authentication protocols and the development of DNA authentication kits. The collaboration aims at promoting the research on new testing technologies and enhancing the quality control of Chinese medicinal material and products.
