The endowment fund named the Li Dak Sum Yip Yio Chin Education Development Fund was established with a generous donation from Dr Li Dak Sum. The Chinese University of Hong Kong held a donation ceremony in gratitude to the donation made for the establishment of the R&D Centre which supports the academic exchange and research activities in Chinese Medicine.
The guests attending the ceremony included: The Honorable C Y Leung, Chief Executive of the HKSAR and Chancellor of CUHK; Dr Li Dak Sum, Chairman of Roxy Property Investment Company Limited and Corporate Advisor of Sharp-Roxy (HK) Limited and his wife Mrs. Li Yip Yio Chin; The honorable Eddie Ng, Secretary for Education; Dr Vincent Cheng, Chairman of the Council of CUHK; Professor Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK; and Prof. Shaw Pang Chui, Director of the Li Dak Sum Yip Yio Chi R&D Centre for Chinese Medicine and Professor of the School of Life Sciences, CUHK. Based on the existing experience, the Centre will promote on the quality control and assurance of Chinese Medicine. Workshops and conferences will be organized to provide training to the Chinese herbal industry. The Centre will also co-operate with the Food and Health Bureau and the Department of Heath of HKSAR to position Hong Kong as an international hub for the development of Chinese Medicine.
